THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SQ3R AND CIRC IN TEACHING READING FOLKTALES

ABSTRACT
The aims of this study are to describe the implementation and to find out the students’ response toward the implementation of SQ3R and CIRC in teaching reading folktales. This research used qualitative design to the ninth grade students at SMPN 1 Semin, Gunung Kidul. Two classes were involved in the study, the first class received SQ3R treatment and the second class received CIRC treatment. Data were collected using classroom observation and questionnaire. The findings indicated that students learn better and have some achievement, the number of students in SQ3R class were able to perform the tasks correctly more than the number of students in CIRC class. The students’ response showed that SQ3R technique were useful and challenging while CIRC technique was also useful but not challenging.
