HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ SCIENCE GENERIC SKILL AT SUMEDANG DISTRICT-WEST JAVA

This study aims to explore the high school students’ science generic skill profile and this research is part of a bigger study focus in improving this skills on students in physics. The data is needed to determine the appropriate treatment which will be used in the next research. Random sampling technique was applied in this research and a survey was done to gather the data. 73 students from one high school in Sumedang District were involved in this research. Data was collected by test which was validated by the experts. Results showed that students’ science generic skills’ percentage only reach 38% (low level). The generic indicator of the measured skills refers to Brotosiswoyo’s stated. Symbolic language 43%, logical framework 40%, logical consistency 37 %, causal law 37% and mathematical modeling 37 %.
