ABSTRACT

Faraday law According to SMK curriculum in 2013, electrolysis is a subtopic of electrochemistry with based competences are: student can understand the processes in electrolysis cell sample; and student can demonstrate electrolysis processes. The constructivist learning model with laboratory activities is needed to improve student’s cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains educational objective. In laboratory activities, student’s worksheet hold central role to improve student’s attitudes and achievement. According to Faraday’s law, mass of substance undergoes oxidation or reduction in electrolysis process depend on electric current, time of electrolysis, molar mass, and oxidation number of substance. The purpose of this study is to identify optimum electroplating practice design for developing of student’s worksheet based on learning cycle 7E. The optimum criteria based on theoretical and experimental mass of substance in reaction and the quality of electroplating. Experimental method was applied to compare the theoretical and experimental mass increase of electrodes. The experiment was optimum (in 10 minutes of electrolysis time) in the conditions: power supply voltage: 2 volt (0,129 A); CuSO4(aq) concentration: 0,5 M; anode and cathode space: 7 cm. There are 18 electrolysis concept labels can be developed by electroplating process learning activity with using student worksheet based on 7E learning cycle.

Key Words: Electrolysis, electroplating worksheet, learning cycle 7E,
