THE IMPACT OF LITERACY PROGRAM WJLRC ON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT’S READING COMPREHENSION

ABSTRACT

This study eplored the implementation of est ava eader’s Reading Challenge (WJLRC) program at Junior High School in Majalengka. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of WJLRC on student’s reading comprehension. Participants included one group students and one English teacher as instructor. Through qualitative case study, data were collected from observations, student documents over a 9 week period and then analyzed qualitatively referring to the research questions. The result gathered from observation and students’ documents showed that through engagement in the literacy program activities, students developed their reading comprehension while reading some books and writing review. The finding confirmed that WJLRC was a beneficial program for students to develop their reading comprehension. This study suggests that teachers and schools should foster a literacy environment to encourage students to read and build their reading comprehension
