ECOLOGICAL CRISES IN KIM SCOTT’S THAT DEADMAN DANCE AND TRUE COUNTRY: ECOCRITICISM PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT
Kim Scott’s That Deadman Dance and True Country, both narrate the first contact of the white people with the Aborigines’ land and its society, which brings ecological, social and spiritual impacts to the land. This study aims to provide ecocritical reading and to describe natural and social ecological crises depicted in the novels and how to solve the crises in the novels. This qualitative study applies Ecocriticism perspective, thus theory of Shuyuan Lu in dividing three divisions of ecology is applied as the ground theory in the analysis. Murray Bookchin’s theory of social ecology is also employed as the supporting theory of the study. This study reveals; first, biodiversity loss, food source problem and water pollution are to be crises in nature. Second, cultural conflict, ethnic cleansing, racial hatred and discrimination and woman abuse are the crises in social ecology.
