THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS TO PROMOTE READING LITERACY

ABSTRACT
In 21st era, the skill of learners in literacy has closed relations between reading skill that may lead the learners to comprehend information analytically, critically, and reflectively. However, the goal has not reached yet. In order to achieve this goal, it needed one strategy that can help students easier to comprehend the text. One strategy that recommended in reading class is implementation of graphic organizers. This study is conducted to describe (1) how are graphic organizers implemented in teaching reading, (2) what types of students’ activities are promoted when graphic organizers are used, and (3) how do graphic organizers promote students’ motivation in reading literacy. This study employed descriptive qualitative design to obtain information from the learning process observed by the researcher and teacher. The research findings showed that most of the students liked using graphic organizers in reading narrative text and graphic organizers helped them in comprehending the text well, finding some new words, improving class participation, and searching for some important information in the story. In conclusion, the implementation of graphic organizers make students easier to comprehend the text well and promoted students’ motivation in reading literacy.
