GENDER BIAS IN CHILDREN’S LITERACY FOUNDATION BOOK

ABSTRACT 

This study aims to describe (1) gender bias (sentence, sentence and image, and image) and (2) teacher responses to gender bias. This research is using qualitative approach with descriptive research type. The instruments of this research are (1) the researcher and (2) the teacher response questionnaire. Techniques used in data collection of this research is documentation of reading and writing. The data are analized by the method of substitution technique. The results show that the first gender bias in the YLAI book is in sentences, sentences and images, and images that are divided based on the dominance of male and female nature, roles, and positions constructed in social and cultural life. Both teacher responses to gender bias in YLAI books isvary.
