ABSTRACT This study aims at determining the effects of punishment and rewards scoring methods toward student science literacy. This study uses quasi-experimental method. The population of this research is class X students at SMA Negeri 98 Jakarta and the sample of research is students of class X MIPA1 and class X MIPA3. The independent variable in this research is the scoring method and the dependent variable is the students’ science literacy. The instrument used is science literacy tests. Data is analyzed by using parametric statistic test in the form of independent sample T test. Science literacy data of students are obtained from science literacy test results. The results showed that the value of t =3.033, db=26 and p-value=0.005/2= 0.0025 < 0.05 which means that there are effects of punishment and reward scoring method toward science literacy. The results proposed is supported by the data of average score of science literacy of students who were given punishment method of 26.400 and science literacy of students given the reward scoring method of 24.615. This means that descriptively the students’ science literacy capability given the punishment scoring method is higher and more consistent than students given the reward scoring method.
